Uploading Photos - Tips for the Best Results

Photo guidelines and tips to ensure the best possible illustrations in your Toddles book.

Written by Jaco Gerrits

Great photos lead to great illustrations. Here are a few tips to get the best results:

Every character needs a photo. You'll upload a separate reference photo for the main character and for each supporting character you add — including pets. There is no way to add a character without a photo, as the illustration is generated from it. If a character doesn't have a suitable photo yet (for example, an unborn sibling), decide how to handle this before adding them.

Do:

  • Use a clear, front-facing photo where the face is clearly visible.

  • Make sure only one person or pet is in the photo. This helps our system focus on the right subject.

  • Use a photo with good lighting. Natural light works best.

  • Choose a photo where the child (or character) is looking towards the camera.

Avoid:

  • Group photos with multiple people visible.

  • Photos with sunglasses, face paint, or heavy shadows.

  • Blurry or very low-resolution images.

  • Side profiles or photos where the face is partially hidden.

If you're not happy with how a photo turned out, you can re-upload during the creation process before placing your order.
